Competition zone

If you have developed some of your judo skills then why not try your hand at a judo competition. There are competitions for all ages and levels of ability from our very own club competition, all the way through to international level competitions. We are fortunate that many of the Hampshire judo events are based at Places Lesiuure Eastleigh, so there is a great opportunity to come and watch an event in action, even if you dont want to take part.

Types of Competition

The British Judo Association splits its competitions into different levels, meaning that there really is something for everyone. All competitions are divided into weight and age groups to ensure fairness. The different levels of competition are shown below.

Club competition

Usually the best place to start is our very own club competition. These are held annually for our Vipers (ages 5-7) and Juniors (ages 8-14).

These are always great fun and we encourage all of our judoka to take part.

These are usually held in early November, listen to the class announcements near the time  or check our facebook page for the dates.

Level 1 (beginners) competitions

We are blessed with a number of local, entry-level competitions, these are dotted throughout the year and we will let you know of them at class.

One of the nicest entry-level events is the local Southampton Samurai competition. This has categories for even the smallest judoka and is run twice a year (March and November). There is often a good representation from our club there and we always have a coach or two on hand to lend support.

Look at our events calendar, listen to the class announcements near the time  or check our facebook page for the dates.

Level 2 and up (intermediates/experienced) competitions

There are also a number of intermediate/experienced level competitions in Hampshire and the South Coast.

A number of our judo players are regular competitors, many getting medals in the higher level competitions, including representing the club at Hampshire and Southern Area competitions.  We even have a number of our judo players that compete at national level, as well as coaches that have also competed nationally.
