New starters checklist
Have you just joined our club and are wondering what to do next? Or perhaps you are thinking of coming along and are wondering what lies ahead. Never fear - just check out our handy new starters checklist below.
Our club New starter information sheet you will recieve after your first session
Week one
Come along and have your first lesson - it's free! We will lend you a jacket - just bring along some jogging bottoms (or similar)
Have a chat with the coaches - let them know what you are hoping to get from judo - they will be able to share their experience with you and let you know what judo is all about
Fill out our judoka form. This lets us know how to get in touch with you and your preferences for emails and social media.
Check out our welcome sheet. You will find a copy on the desk at each of our sessions
Have a look at our club rules and safety section
Week two
Come back for more! We have multiple sessions during the week - you can check the days, times, venues and session fees here.
If you haven't done so already then fill out our judoka form.
Have a browse around our website and facebook page if you want to know what we are up to.
In particular, check our events page and events diary.
Within the first month
Hopefully, by now you will have decided that judo is for you! To continue your judo you will need to register with the British Judo Association and purchase a judo license. In doing so:
This will mean that you continue to be insured (the club's insurance covers your first month).
You will receive your membership card and judo record book
You will receive your first coloured belt (red)
The link to the British Judo Association membership page is here.
Also, if you are coming to our sessions regularly, you may want to set up a direct debit with us and save some money!
The link to our direct debit scheme is here.
Within the first six months
By now you are probably ready for your first grading - so:
Listen out at class for the dates (usually in February, June and October each year) or keep an eye on our facebook page
Have a read of your grading syllabus or check out our grading resources here so you know what to expect
Ask your coach if there is anything you are not sure about or want to practise
