The Grading sessions are only for players that have registered to grade, there will not be a normal session running that day. If any of our players not grading wish to train then Southampton Samurai Judo Club have kindly offered to host any of our players who wish to attend their session.
Because of the recent rise in co-vid cases and the numbers attending the grading, we request that anyone attending the Grading or who wish to attend the Xmas party do a lateral flow test the night before or the morning of the 4th December. Full hand sanitising and mat cleaning will be taking place at the grading.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your grading session time, We need time to sign you in, check all your details, take payment and have you ready for your session on time. We have over 40 Players grading on that day so please be punctual.
Please bring your judo Licence!!! No Licence, No Grading! If your licence card is out of date but your membership was extended by the BJAdue to covid please log into the BJA Dojo and take a picture of your membership expiry there as proof.
We will be taking payment before each grading session at sign in, please make sure you have exact cash or means of contactless payment.
We also request that unless your child has any additional needs that require you to stay that once signed in you drop your child off and pick them up at the end of the session. This firstly keeps the numbers down in the Dojo and well as have less of a distraction for the players and less noise in the Dojo.
Finally if you child does not pass their grading then they will be informed and your child's grading fee will be refunded at the end of the session. They will then be able to retake their grading at the next grading event.
Parents - When you arrive at the grading there will be a sign-in desk near the entrance. Line up with your child and have their British Judo Association Licence and the money for the fees ready.
You will be asked to hand over the licence and the name, licence number and expiry date will be checked with our records. Any discrepancies will be dealt with at this point.
You will pay the grading fee and mat fee at the desk and we will keep the licence at the desk until the grading is over. Your child will then be asked to go and wait by the mat, with their water bottle, until they are asked to come onto the mat. (Older children and adults can of course book themselves in for the grading)
We ask that you then leave the Dojo and return to pick them up at the end of the session.
On the mat:
Judoka (Players) - You will be asked onto the mat when the session starts. We will do a short warm up and then the gradings will commence. You might be in the first group for grading or you might have to wait until later in the session, so use this time wisely to do any last minute practice if needed.
Once you have finished your grading, please be aware that others may still be practicing or completing their grading, so please stay quiet. We will have some activities for you to do.
When all the gradings are complete the examiners will sign your licence so all the information is correct and up to date, and at the end of the session your licence will be handed back to you if you have passed. If you are grading to a new belt colour you will be given the new belt. You can wear you new mon or belt straight away.
If you have not passed, we will discuss the reasons why with you and your parents after the session and your grading fee will be refunded. You will get an opportunity to try again at the next grading.
After the Grading:
After all the grading sessions are complete, we as a club will compile all the information from the gradings and register it with the BJA who will process it and send you out your MON stripe in the post, along with your information for the next grading. This process can take up to 4 weeks to complete so please be patient. If after that time if you have not received anything please let us know and we will chase it up for you.
You will also see in your BJA Dojo that your grade will change, and under the grading history it will show the date of the grading and what grade you achieved. If you have not done so already you can register for the BJA Dojo here: https://www.bjadojo.co.uk
