At our club, all adult judoka that do not have a black belt will be kyu grades.
Kyu grades provide a structured way to learn the core techniques of judo.
All of the information on the Mon grading syllabus is covered at the British Judo website: https://www.britishjudo.org.uk/get-started/grading/kyu-grade-scheme/. There are also instructional videos to help you brush up on your understanding.
Whilst we encourage everyone to take an interest and understand what is required for their syllabus at home, practising the judo techniques themselves should only be done at the judo session under the watchful eye of a qualified coach.
There are 6 grades within the kyu grading system, each with a different coloured belt.
This is a great resource to show all the tecniques in the Kodokan when learning elements of your gradings
All 100 videos can be viewed through the playlist
The Kyu Grade system is a distinctive feature of judo with promotion to different coloured belts based on technical ability, knowledge and understanding as well as supplementary knowledge of Japanese terminology.
Although there is no contest requirement in the Kyu Grade system there is a progressively structured randori element based on open skills.
