Dennis Penfold

It is with great sadness that the club announces the passing away of Dennis Penfold 8th Dan, 1963 European silver medallist and Kata expert.

Gordon and I consider ourselves  fortunate to be coached by Dennis for several years and we were proud to call him our coach. He also taught the two of us Kata, which led to Gordon and I competing in two European Kata Championships.

Dennis and his wife Tina Penfold have visited our club several times over the years and some of our judoka will have benefited from their  knowledge and expertise. Dennis will be a huge loss to British Judo and will be sadly missed.

Our sincere condolences go out his wife Tina and  there family.

Steve Kemish 4th Dan

About our club

We are a large, friendly judo club, run by volunteers, based at Knightwood Leisure Centre and the Hilt in Chandlers Ford.

We cater for players of all levels, from absolute beginners through to experienced players who compete nationally, and welcome players of all ages and ability from 5 years old. We encourage everybody to take part and have several players with special needs. Our aim is to help players of all ages and abilities enjoy and improve their judo.

Judo is a fantastic way to improve your fitness and build confidence as well as a means of self-defense. It's also a great way to make new friends - we are a very social club and run a number of events throughout the year so there are plenty of opportunities to get to know us a bit better.

We always welcome new players - the first session is free, come along and have a go!
